| Manny Hernandez, better known as Manny ASL, is a very different kind of storyteller. Imagine, if you will, a storyteller who does not rely on a piece of paper or voice to tell his stories. Instead he uses all of his body and more powerfully his hands and facial expressions to share stories with richness in ways that mere spoken words fail so miserably. Manny ASL, a Brooklyn, NY native, is a professional ASL storyteller. For many years, Manny ASL has performed his shows in numerous venues. His stories are as varied as in live and sweaty sports, opera, and the Mafia. His vignettes include 3-D slow motion body gestures, animated facial expressions and passionate signing. Manny ASLs delivery creates characters who come alive as we watch, engaging us audiences on humorous, emotional, and intellectual levels. You will find these vibrant characters not only in his live performances but also on the DVD Manny ASL: Stories in American Sign Language. He plans to continue presenting his ASL stories on DVD as a way of preserving Deaf culture in America. Manny ASL received his B.A. in Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University and studied teaching of ASL as a foreign language at Columbia University. Currently, he lives in Washington DC with his wife and baby Mia. He teaches ASL at the Catholic University of America. |
